LET'S GET PREPPED
Prepping properly for your tan is one of the most important things you can do. When you make an appointment for a Bronzed Babe tan, we become a team. If you do your part, then we can do ours. A poorly prepped tan will result in an inconsistent and undesirable result.
The Bronzed Babe guarantee and free touch up offer is VOID if prep and care instructions are not followed properly...yes we can tell...

PLEASE ASK!!
24 HOURS BEFORE YOUR APPOINTMENT
Shower
Make sure to toughly exfoliate your skin and shave. Freshly shaven and exfoliated skin will yield the best result and increase the life of your spray tan. Taking a shower of any kind right before your appointment will cause open pores and uneven absorption of spray an solution.
Shaving
Use a plain razor with no moisture strip and shave skin areas that you normally shave. It is recommended to shave before your appointment because it removes a layer of skin and it is not advised to shave once you have the spray tan done. Do not use shaving creams that contain alcohol as these are very drying for your skin. Body wash or Conditioner are great substitutes for shaving cream.
Exfoliating
Exfoliate your skin evenly and thoroughly. The exfoliating mitts from our studio work the best, loofas only scratch the surface of the skin and do not remove skin evenly. Contact us directly prior to your appointment if you wish to purchase an exfoliating mitt. Pay close attention to any "dry" areas of skin such as the knees and elbows. Do not use any exfoliating products or synthetic scrubs that contain oil, they can leave a barrier on your skin for a few days and will affect the application of your spray tan...and don't actually remove any dead skin.
Self Care Services
All other self care services should be completed 24 hours prior to your spray tan appointment- manicures, pedicures, waxing, etc.
Any services conducted after your spray tan will result in tan damage and complete removal. Manicures and Pedicures can be completed as a color change only but your spray tan should not be exposed to any lotions, oils, exfoliants, or hot water spas.
DURING YOUR SPRAY TAN
Your skin must be "bare" and fresh. It is extremely important that no skin barriers of any kind are present. Skin barriers include: perfume, lotion, deodorant, and makeup. These items MUST be removed from you skin prior to spray tan.
**If you prep your skin 24 hours before as recommended, you may wear deodorant and makeup afterwards as long as it can be removed before the tan. PLEASE avoid wearing any lotion or perfume after your skin has been prepped. These items are harder to get off before the tan without another shower and exfoliation**
AFTER YOUR SPRAY TAN
LETTING THE MAGIC HAPPEN
Drying
After every tan, we will fully dry your spray tan as well as apply a complimentary drying powder to keep your skin dry and reduce the risk of tan bronzer transferring on to other things.
You are welcome to hang around your house naked all day, however it is not required
Clothing
Leave your appointment wearing clothing that is dark in color, preferably black and loose fitting to avoid excess contact and staining to your clothing. Examples: black maxi dress, black pajama set, black cotton jumpsuit.
Avoid: bras, jeans, tight fitting sports attire, joggers (with tight ankles), spaghetti strap tops that rub your shoulders, or leggings with a tight waist band.
SHOWERING
INSTRUCTIONS FOR TANS WITH THE STANDARD SOLUTION (8 Hour Rinse Time)
Overnight Development
We recommend wearing clothing with long sleeves and long pants. This will assist as a barrier to any contact with other areas of your own skin as well as the skin of others. There are risk if you do sleep in short sleeves and shorts, resting your head on your arm or your hand on your body will cause unevenly tanned surfaces.
Showering
Shower within the allotted time frame we discussed during your appointment. If left on for an extended period of time the tan can over develop and produce an undesired color result. During this shower, you must RINSE ONLY. Do not use any products or soaps (this includes washing your hair). You may take a regular shower using BBTanning suggested products 24 hours after your spray tan appointment time.
-
During your shower there will be a lot of tan runoff. This is the cosmetic bronzer that sits on top of your skin and is not your actual tan.
-
*If you notice there are "drip lines" or patchy uneven areas, rub your skin lightly with a wash cloth or your hand while in the shower. Occasionally the cosmetic bronzer adheres to the skin more thoroughly than in other areas and needs to be rubbed off gently.
SHOWERING
INSTRUCTIONS FOR TANS WITH THE EXPRESS SOLUTION (1-4 Hour Rinse Time)
Showering

(this includes washing your hair).
Development
After your shower rinse, your express tan will produce light color. The extended development formula of this solution is what allows it to be an "express" and therefore will continue to develop after your first rinse. Please allow 24 hours for your color to fully develop. You may take a regular shower using BBTanning suggested products 24 hours after your spray tan appointment time.

Activity
During the first "setting" hours after your spray it is recommended to avoid any activity that would cause sweating such as exercise, cleaning, washing dishes, or active work. During the staining process before your tan is rinsed, the tan is very sensitive and should be "babied". Once the tan is rinsed you should avoid any heavy sweating however you can return to normal clothing and activities.
Contact
Avoid contact with your own skin while the tan is setting. Placing your hand on your developing tan or others touching your skin (such as partners, children, or babies) will cause a transfer of tanning bronzer to their skin. Contact us for removal tips if this occurs.
Water
It is crucial that during this time you do not expose your tan to moisture or water. The tan is consistent with a "stain" on your skin and once it is rinsed off, development of color will cease. Washing your hands is possible however we recommend using a wet wash cloth rather than running water. Potential water splashing onto the hands, wrists, and arms will damage the tan development.
TAKING CARE OF YOUR SPRAY TAN
Moisturize
For a longer lasting tan moisturize with lotion daily. We can not stress this enough! Hydrated skin is happy skin. Poorly hydrated skin will result in a "cracking" appearance of the tan....this is not the 'tan' itself this is your skin cracking from lack of moisture. Hydrating your skin from the inside out will result in the best fade of your spray tan, that means drinking water!
Showering
You should avoid exfoliating your skin at all costs. The spray tan is merely a stain of the surface layer of your skin, exfoliating and removing that layer will cause fading and removal of your spray tan. The same goes for shaving, shaving removes a layer of skin and therefore lightens your tan prematurely. If you MUST shave...use a new razor that will cause less friction on your skin or an electric trimmer.
Vacations
If traveling on vacation after your spray tan, please be aware that not following the recommended aftercare instructions will result in early exfoliation of your spray tan. Exposing your spray tan to pools, salt water, or humid environments can cause your skin to shed early and therefore remove your color. Purchasing our Tan Extender Lotion or Gradual Tanner will be a great option to hydrate and add a small amount of color to your spray tan while you're away. Visit our FAQ page for more info.
